My Summer Garden 2015

Gardening is one of my favorite things to do. It is definitely my passion! I love to do all kinds of yard work. To me gardening is therapy. There is something about going outside in nature and enjoying beautiful growth. Today I will be showing you what I've been doing in my garden this year and over the years.

     My Garden Bed:
Back in May I posted my best garden soil mixture for my garden bed. I'm mostly happy with how well everything has been growing. Usually I have a huge harvest but, this year the weather has been crazy with too much rain and not enough sun. Finally in August the sun is shining everyday and I've been getting a ton of zucchini and other crops.

You may also notice in my soil picture that I have no rock. In July we got rock in our backyard which has been so great! No more endless weeds!

      My Harvest:
Some things I am growing in my garden this year are zucchini, radish, green onions, and snap peas. In a few weeks I should have some beets, spinach, and green beans.

   Apple Trees:

Last year my family bought some baby apple trees. I'm very happy that the apple trees are still alive and have new growth. Next year I should have some fresh apples! It takes about 3 years for apples to grow on an apple tree. I also used the same garden soil mixture for my apple trees that I used for my garden bed.

       Wheelbarrow Garden:
When my family first moved to Colorado the previous homeowner had some old yellow wheelbarrows that they left behind. In July my dad spray painted the wheel barrows brown, drilled some holes, and my Grandpa and I planted some pretty flowers that are still growing.

Bird Feeder and Bird House:
Living in Colorado we get a lot of wildlife. From deer, to cayote, to pretty birds, and even an occasional bobcat! I love waking up to dozen of birds going inside the bird house and eating the bird seed. I got the bird feeder from Walmart and I painted some old bird houses with acrylic paint.

The Best Garden Soil Mixture!

Happy Memorial's Day everyone! I hope everyone is having a great day with family, friends, and remembering all those that fought for our country to make us free! I have been wanting to start my garden for the past month but, it's been raining non stop. Finally today it's sunny! It's a Memorial Day blessing! I have been using this garden soil mixture in my vegetable garden, for my apple treas, and for strawberries. When I lived in Maryland I had tomato plants that were 4-5 feet tall! It works wonders and is the best soil mixture you'll ever use!

The Best Garden Soil Mixture

You will need:
1 bag peat moss
1 bag steer manure
1 bag vermiculite
1 bag sand

Directions:
1.  Mix everything in you garden from the bottom up.

2. Plant your desired vegetables and fruits.

Notes:
You may need more or less soil mixture depending on the size of your garden.

I'm proud to be an American for at least I know I'm free...
      Happy Memorial's Day!

DIY Seedling Pots

It's that time of year again for all you gardening lovers to put your green thumb to the test! Gardening is one of my favorite things to do. My favorite things to garden are vegetables and fruits. There is something about growing your own produce in your backyard. Today I am showing you how to start your own seedlings out of toilet paper rolls. They are super easy to make and are biodegradable!

DIY Seedling Pots

Step 1: Using one paper toilet paper roll, cut in half.

Step 2: Fold one of the rolls in half one way and make a 3/4 inch cut, then fold the roll in half the other way and make another 3/4 inch cut. You should have 4 cuts in total on the bottom of your roll. Repeat this step on the other roll.

Step 3: Fold your flaps into a cardboard box style. Repeat this step for the other roll.

Step 4: Fill your pots with a peat moss mixture and garden seed. Place your pots by a sunny window. Water your plants by your garden seed instructions.
